Waste to Energy Solutions Are Booming In Australia

eniginwa23
Waste-to-energy sectors that are more mature, like biomass and biogas energy have been delivering consistent results for some time. The main reasons behind this are the simplicity of the feedstock, efficiency of energy conversion and impact on the environment. In the present times, biomass power generation consists of mainly wood waste, and black liquor.

According to a research report filed by business consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, waste-to-energy solutions have a great future ahead in Australia. Already, the NSW Energy Protection Agency has showed interest in churning out energy from MSW – Municipal Solid Waste. There is installed capacity of 80 MW (approx.) and treatment capacity is set to touch 12 million tons annually by the year 2020.

However, the report showed that cost was the foremost concern for distributing municipal solid waste across Australia and is the most important factor that local councils care about when choosing a service provider who offers waste management services.

Although the value of the energy generated from bio-plant and biogas has very high chances of going up, the report states that energy generation from biogas is still in need of help from the government. It has been discovered that Australian government’s stress on migrating waste from landfills will increase the chances of making more profits. However the half-hearted demand for recovered materials and the unpredictable standards that are in place in various states and regions around the country are likely to become a hindrance in that process.

The Australian Solid Waste Management Market analyzed the collection, recovery and disposal of waste. The result of this analysis showed that though the Australian Solid Waste Management market is mature, it promises to evolve further and the process of evolution is likely to involve better efficiency of waste collection and the acceptance of resource recovery as the government has adopted a reduce, reuse, recycle and recovery strategy.

Several waste-to-energy solutions are in the pipeline for approval in Western Australia and New South Wales. Going back to the report, there is a concern for unstable management practices, classifications and definitions for waste in different states and territories. All these things have complicated the process of waste collection and companies that offer waste management for energy efficiency in WA have had to tailor their solutions according to the regions which has had a direct impact on the cost-efficiency of these processes.
Moreover, the report stated that the massive amount of capital needed for recovery of waste and price fluctuation of some materials prevent firms from investing in facilities to recover materials. The conclusion of the analysis stated that in order to earn new customers, providing waste management solutions along with some add-ons like environmental protection solutions.
